This is an Act to make provisions for the registration of veterinary surgeons and matters connected therewith. It provides for the control of the practice of veterinary and this and other purposes establishes the Veterinary Council of Nigeria, the Veterinary Surgeons’ disciplinary tribunal and the Veterinary Surgeons investigating panel. The Council, which shall be a body corporate, shall be charged with, among other things: determining qualification requirements for registration as a veterinary surgeon under this Act; securing the establishment and maintenance of a register of persons registered under this Act as veterinary surgeons. The Minister may give directions to the council. The Act also defines penalties for unprofessional conduct.

All voting papers, whether valid or rejected, shall be retained in safe custody by the scrutineers until the council directs their destruction. Any person nominated as a candidate for election who is dissatisfied with the conduct of an election may lodge a complaint in writing with the registrar.
