Rwanda Irrigation Master Plan

The government of Rwanda, in its quest for sustainable production of food, cash, export, and industrial crops developed the 10year irrigation master plan to maximally utilise surface and underground water resources available for the full promotion of irrigation in the country. The plan seeks to address the need for irrigation, arising as a result of the uneven distribution of rainfall and water resources in the country. Phase one of the plan successfully identifies national potential irrigation areas, while phase two seeks to validate the findings of phase one and explore the detailed design aspect of the individual irrigation scheme.
